Terms of Service
These are the terms on which we quote for and carry out work. They apply alongside your legal rights, which they do not reduce.

1.Who you are contracting with
Jimmy Taps is the trading name of James Candlish, a sole trader.
Prenton, Merseyside
Email: [email protected]
Phone: 07307 331103
Our full postal address for formal correspondence is available on request by email or phone.
We are not VAT registered, so there is no VAT to add to our prices.
A sole trader contracts personally, so your agreement is with that individual rather than with a company.
2.These terms
They apply from the moment you accept a quote or ask us to carry out work. Nothing here takes away rights the law gives you as a consumer.
3.Quotes
A quote is a fixed offer for the work described in it. It stands until we tell you otherwise. If a quote is time limited, for example because a material price is only held for a period, we will say so on the quote itself.
If we can only give a rough figure because we cannot see the full extent of a problem yet, we will call it an estimate and say so. An estimate is not a quote and the final figure may differ.
Quotes are free and there is no obligation to accept one.
4.What “fixed price” means
When we quote a fixed price, that is what you pay for the work described. It does not go up because a job took longer than we expected, and there is no hourly rate running in the background.
The price can only change in these situations:
- we open something up and find a fault that could not be seen beforehand, for example old pipework behind a wall, or a second leak underneath the one you called about
- the problem turns out to be a different problem to the one described to us
- we cannot get access on the agreed day, or the area is not ready for us to work in
- you ask us to do additional work while we are there
In every one of those cases we stop, tell you what we have found, and give you a new price before doing any more. You are free to say no. You will never receive an invoice for work you did not agree to.
5.Call out charges
There is no call out fee. We do not charge for coming to look, and we do not charge for providing a quote.
6.What we need from you
Access to the property at the agreed time, and someone over eighteen there to let us in. Working water and electricity where the job needs them. Pets kept out of the work area. Somewhere to park within reasonable distance.
If we arrive and cannot get in, or cannot work, we will do our best to rearrange.
7.What we do not do
We do not remove or work with asbestos. If we suspect asbestos we will stop and tell you, and you will need a licensed specialist.
We do not carry out electrical work that requires a registered electrician.
8.Payment
Payment is due on completion unless we have agreed otherwise in writing. We accept cash and bank transfer.
On larger jobs we may ask for a deposit towards materials before ordering them. If we do, we will say so in the quote.
9.Emergency and out of hours work
We attend emergencies around the clock. Because emergency work is unpredictable, a genuine emergency elsewhere can delay a planned booking. If that happens we will contact you as soon as we know and rearrange at a time that suits you.
10.Our guarantee
All workmanship carried out by Jimmy Taps is guaranteed for 12 months from the date the work is completed.
Parts and appliances we fit carry whatever guarantee their manufacturer provides, and we will pass on the paperwork.
The guarantee does not cover:
- work altered or interfered with by someone else afterwards
- damage caused by misuse, accident or freezing
- pre-existing faults elsewhere in the system that we did not work on and did not quote for
- normal wear on moving parts such as washers and seals
To claim, phone or email us with the address and what has happened. We will come and look.
This guarantee is in addition to your legal rights, not instead of them.
11.If something goes wrong
Under the Consumer Rights Act 2015 our work must be carried out with reasonable care and skill. If it is not, you are entitled to have it put right, and if that is not possible or not done within a reasonable time, to a price reduction.
We do not attempt to exclude or limit our liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, for fraud, or for anything else the law does not allow to be excluded.
12.Complaints
Phone or email us and we will respond within five working days. Most things are sorted out with a conversation and a return visit.

We are a Checkatrade member, and you can also raise a complaint through Checkatrade's own process if you would rather involve a third party.
13.Cancelling
You have a legal right to cancel within fourteen days of agreeing the work, in most circumstances. That is set out in full on our Your Right to Cancel page, including what happens if you ask us to start straight away.
14.Your information
What we do with your personal details is set out in our Privacy Notice.
15.Law
These terms are governed by the law of England and Wales. If you live in Scotland or Northern Ireland you may bring proceedings in your own country's courts.
